About our captioned screening
More information about our approach
Captioned screenings at DCA are an important part of our programme and our commitment to accessibility. We're proud that we've significantly increased the number of these events in our programme over the past couple of years. We know that some people are reluctant to book for captioned screenings but we generally find that if you aren't relying on subtitles, they're very quickly forgotten once the film begins.
These screenings are also the part of our programme we currently get the most audience feedback about. Some people don't like seeing films with captions and would like us to reduce the number of these screenings, some would like us to increase them and lots of people have specific requests about the days and times that suit them for attending these events.
To show a film with captions, we require them to be made available by distributors. There’s been lots of progress on this in recent years with far more new releases being subtitled, but there’s more work to do and we always provide feedback when a film doesn’t come with captions.
On average we now have one screening every day with captions, and we aim to vary the titles and times on offer to suit a range of availability, including making sure we programme evening and weekend screenings. We've also started offering captions at some of the special screenings in our programme including Ciné Sundays and Bring a Baby, and for one-off screenings when possible.
We are a two-screen cinema showing multiple new releases each week, and we're always working to curate a programme which is as diverse and balanced as possible for the wide range of audiences who visit us. If you have feedback about this, or any other part of our programme, we're always happy to receive it: you can email us at [javascript protected email address]. We will continue to work to increase the availability of accessible screenings, but we can’t accommodate individual requests for captioned screenings on specific dates or times.
