Isabel’s life takes an unexpected turn the day her daughter Madalen asks her to pay regular visits to Ramón, her ex-husband, who is ill. After fifteen years apart, even though they were family for years, Isabel sees him as a stranger and begins to rekindle resentments she thought she had overcome. Nevertheless, accompanying Ramón at his most vulnerable time will allow Isabel to see their failure with different eyes and focus on the present in her own life.

Pilar Palomero, director and screenwriter, is the latest revelation in Spanish cinema. Her debut feature Schoolgirls was the big winner at the 2021 Goya Awards, obtaining nine nominations and winning in the categories of Best Film, Best New Director, Best Original Screenplay and Best Cinematography. With her second feature film, La maternal, she received three Goya Award nominations in the categories of Best Film, Best Director and Best Supporting Actress.
