Yes, Madam!
Before wowing audiences in films like Everything Everywhere All at Once and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Michelle Yeoh starred in Yes, Madam! - one of the best examples of the Hong Kong action genre.
In only her third credited onscreen appearance, Yeoh stars as Inspector Ng, who teams up with Cynthia Rothrock’s Scotland Yard inspector to track down a gang of criminals who have stolen some vital information.
Produced by the legendary Sammo Hung, the film was originally released as Police Assassins in the UK and single-handedly kickstarted the “girls with guns” subgenre of Hong Kong action films. Yeoh and Rothrock exude effortless cool, their martial arts prowess and practical stunts as thrilling today as they were in 1985, and the film’s wacky comedy gives the film that unmistakeable Hong Kong sense of fun.
The Last Dumpling
Yes, Madam! will be accompanied by a screening of the short film The Last Dumpling. Two men on a first date face an awkward situation when only one dumpling is left on the plate in this funny homage to Hong Kong action films.
In collaboration with Fighting Spirit Film Festival.
