Parasite director Bong Joon Ho’s 2013 sci-fi film Snowpiercer never received a proper cinema release here in the UK, as the director was locked in a bitter dispute with disgraced producer Harvey Weinstein.

The film made its way onto many critics’ “best of” end-of-year lists, so we are thrilled to offer DCA audiences the special chance to see this fascinating film which has rarely been seen on UK cinema screens.

Snowpiercer marked the first time the celebrated director worked in English (a move soon to be replicated with his highly-anticipated upcoming film Mickey 17).

Based on the French graphic novel Transperceneige , Snowpiecer is set aboard the titular train as it circles the globe, carrying the last of humanity after a climate disaster has plunged the Earth into a new Ice Age. The train has fostered a class system, where the wealthy elites live in opulent carriages at the front, while the lower class live in crowded conditions, watched by armed guards.

Chris Evans stars as the leader of a revolution of the lower-class citizens against the elite. While it would take Parasite’s global success to make Bong Joon Ho a household name in the western world, his respect among the filmmakers and actors of the world is clear to see here, allowing him to assemble a fantastic cast, including Tilda Swinton, Jamie Bell, John Hurt, Parasite star and regular collaborator Song Kang-ho and Octavia Spencer. There is even a part for Trainspotting’s Ewen Bremner

As we’ve come to expect from the Korean director, this is a stylish, propulsive film and one that deserves to be seen on the big screen.
