Introduction to Letterpress

Explore the wonderful world of letterpress and typography in this fun class. 

Learn the basics of setting moveable wooden and metal type, and using Adana, Quarto and Albion presses to print your own verses. We’ll take you through all the different stages, from hand-setting type and locking into a frame for printing to how to identify problems and find suitable remedies. 

If you ever wanted to know how they used to print books in centuries past, then this class is for you.

Excellent class, my first introduction to letterpress. Enjoyable, creative + relaxed atmosphere. 

Good introduction class to letterpress. Was able to produce 3 different designs during the class. Enjoyable process and good equipment.

Need to know

  • What to bring

We provide everything you'll need, just bring yourself. You are welcome to bring along any inspiration, images or sketchbooks to work from.

 

  • What to wear

We'll provide aprons and gloves but recommend wearing old clothes as printmaking can be messy. Please note that open-toed footwear and sandals are not allowed.

 

  • Food & drinks

A sealed water flask or drinking vessel is permitted but other food and drinks are not allowed in the studio.

Marianne Wilson

Marianne Wilson (Livingstone) is an artist/printmaker with a BDes Hons Illustration and Printmaking and an MA Art History. She works as a Studio Coordinator in DCA Print Studio and specialises in papermaking.

Scott Hudson is an Artist and Printmaker who practices in multiple printmaking mediums. He works as a Print Studio Coordinator at DCA as well as coordinating Dundee Print Collective, State of Print and Print Festival Scotland
