Dundead Halloween: A Nightmare on Elm Street (40th Anniversary)

Celebrate Halloween itself with us at this special anniversary screening of one of the slasher greats. Come along in costume for the chance to win a treat – we’ll be awarding our favourite with a Dundead goody bag.

Before he reinvented the slasher genre for the second time with 1996’s Scream (already seen on DCA screens earlier in the year), Wes Craven took his first stab at the genre with 1984’s A Nightmare on Elm Street, the film which launched the pop culture-dominating figure of Freddy (or ‘Fred’ as he’s referred to here) Kreuger. 

Robert Englund plays Fred, the child-murdering ex-janitor who tracks his victims down in their sleep. It’s easy to see why the character was instantly iconic – with his signature red and green striped jumper, tatty fedora, burned skin and deadly glove, having the power to infiltrate his victims’ dreams meant that no-one was ever safe. Heather Langenkamp is great as determined final girl Nancy, while her mother is played by Oscar nominee Ronee Blakley and rounding out the cast is veteran character actor John Saxon. 

We’re delighted to be screening this iconic horror film on Halloween in honour of its 40th anniversary. Just don’t fall asleep . . .
