One of the most outstanding German artists of his generation, Manfred Pernice (b. 1963) is known for anti-monumental work.

Reflecting on the complex relationship between sculpture, visual art, architecture, city-building and human stories of time and place, Pernice creates objects and sculptures that suggest themselves as already existing in everyday life, formed of a language that is distinctively recognisable.

The exhibition focuses on developments in Pernice’s practice over the last three years, in particular a work the artist describes as Sonderausstellung (special exhibition). Sonderausstellung in many ways constitutes the development of a new artistic strategy for Pernice; one that provides a conceptual and physical housing in which to locate his formal, investigative work. Describing these installations as “an exhibition within an exhibition”, recent projects are more overtly domestic in their resonance: a world of interiority and human scale activity.

Pernice has exhibited widely over the past two decades at institutions such as Secession, Vienna, Ludwig Museum, Cologne and the Kunsthalle, Zurich.

This, Pernice’s first UK solo show, opened at Modern Art Oxford in October 2010 and will travel to SMAK in Ghent followings its run in Dundee.
