Contemporary art exhibitions in our two beautiful gallery spaces
DCA’s Exhibitions team develops and delivers the annual programme of exhibitions that unfolds across our two beautiful galleries. We typically work towards three seasons of work each year, comprising solo and group exhibitions, at times staging one major project across both galleries and elsewhere developing distinct presentations of work within each space.
We work with artists at varying stages of their careers, offering early career artists their first major exhibitions in a UK institution, as well as championing more established artists who may not have exhibited widely within Scotland. We regularly develop new commissions from Scottish artists, whilst also bringing the very best in international contemporary art to Dundee for the first time.
Exhibitions at DCA are developed to engage and involve local audiences in Dundee and Scotland whilst at the same time contributing to wider conversations globally about the ever-expanding field of contemporary art.
Our team undertakes extensive research each year to develop these projects, and as a result our gallery programme is usually confirmed around two years in advance.
Although we are of course interested in hearing about artists’ work, we’re unfortunately unable to respond to unsolicited exhibition proposals and requests to exhibit within the programme. However, the exhibitions team are more than happy to receive updates on artists' work to inform their research, so please feel free to send on any information on upcoming projects to exhibitions@dca.org.uk.
We also appreciate that contemporary art galleries can often be strange and unusual places to visit, so we aim to make each exhibition experience at DCA open and accessible to anyone wishing to engage with the works on display. Contextual information about each exhibition is provided in our exhibition notes and in the dedicated Information Space just outside the gallery spaces; please also feel free to strike up a conversation with our Visitor Assistants if you have particular questions or queries you’d like answered: they're always happy to chat about our exhibitions. Our Exhibition Notes also include a glossary of terms and words for you to reference, and are available in a range of accessible formats including large print, braille and as an audio file.
