Activity Sheets Inspired by Sukaina Kubba
Design your own family rug
Create your own rug design with our activity sheets inspired by Sukaina Kubba's exhibition Turn Me Into a Flower.
Sukaina Kubba is a multidisciplinary artist whose work is strongly rooted in cultural research, storytelling, and drawing connections. Many of the artworks on display in DCA galleries take inspiration from rug designs and she is interested in rugs as travelling objects, that can move from place to place or from home to home.
Kubba often had Persian rugs in her family home that meant a lot to her. The rugs would be displayed on the floor or hanging on a wall and featured lots of different symbols, designs and motifs. She has spent a lot of time researching rugs from this region and using various different techniques to trace and retrace their designs.
Inspired by the designs and motifs that Kubba has used in her work, or making up your own symbols, patterns and designs, create your own rug that tells the story of your family using our activity sheets below. These activity sheets can also be found in our Create Space while the exhibition is running.
