Celebrating Kimono: Kyoto to Catwalk

Join us for special screenings and Japanese-inspired courses to coincide with V&A Dundee's exhibition.

At the beginning of May V&A Dundee opened Kimono: Kyoto to Catwalk, an exhibition exploring the fascinating story of the significance, appeal and influence of this iconic garment.

Showing the kimono as a dynamic, ever-evolving icon of fashion, the exhibition traces its evolution and influence from 17th century Japan to today’s cutting-edge couture and street fashion across the world. Running until Sun 5 January 2025, this is the final chance to see these rare works together on the last stop of the exhibition’s international tour.

To celebrate the exhibition, we've collaborated with V&A Dundee to bring a programme of special screenings to our cinema screens. Continuing throughout the exhibition's run, we start with two 35mm screenings: Akira Kurosawa's light-hearted samurai sequel, Sanjuro, in May and Yasujirô Ozu's influential award-winning masterpiece, Late Spring, in June. If you come to see either of these and then show your cinema ticket at V&A Dundee, you'll get 10% off entrance to Kimono: Kyoto to Catwalk, where you can see actor Toshiro Mifune's screen worn kimono in real life.

We're also offering you the chance to create your own artwork using techniques developed in Japan with a special offer for Kimono: Kyoto to Catwalk ticket holders. Get 10% off standard tickets for our Japanese Woodblock Printing, Mokulito: Japanese Wood Lithography, Japanese Brush Calligraphy and Bookbinding: Japanese Cloth Covered Accordion Album classes in DCA Print Studio. Simply show your Kimono ticket when you book at our Box Office.
