Games announced for Drop in and Play

Coming Sat 25 January

We're delighted to share the full list of developers who will be joining us for our Drop in and Play event, in partnership with Ninja Kiwi. 

Taking place on Sat 25 January, this free event will include the work of nine local game developers and will also feature games from this year’s DunDev teams. Drop in to DCA between 12:30 and 15:30 to be among the first to try these new games and meet the creatives behind them. 

Our January Drop in and Play will include a Careers Spotlight event featuring short talks and introductions to careers in gaming, taking place between 11:30 – 12:30. This segment of the event is free, but ticketed – book your place now via our website.

Cognitive Games: Deadlocked

Cognitive is a new studio founded by Abertay University student Dominik Gawron. They’ll be bringing Deadlocked, a surprisingly cute top-down shooter where you can destroy spaceships while also unlocking pet companions and customising your character.

Sloth Doctor Games: Heldritch Rush

Sloth Doctor Games, a team of Abertay students who formed for DARE Academy, will be presenting their game Heldritch Rush, a 90s-inspired isometric rail-shooter with added accessibility features.

Astro Cat Entertainment: Enchanted Duels

Abertay University student team Astro Cat Entertainment are pleased to present Enchanted Duels, a 2D two-player competitive dungeon race. Players can scavenge magic weapons to prepare for the final fight against each other.

James Rhodes: Boingo

Solo developer James Rhodes will be returning to Drop in and Play with Boingo, a colourful and approachable platformer. Help Boingo bounce, wall-jump and air-dash through a wealth of exciting 2D platforming challenges, collecting Star Power as you go.

Pretty Interesting Experiences: Sight Unseen

Pretty Interesting Experiences, a game development team composed of Abertay University students, are bringing Sight Unseen, a virtual reality stealth game that breaks the boundaries of the medium by allowing players to see from multiple positions at the same time.

Ghost Camp: Forest of Deceit

From Ghost Camp, the creators behind Dare Academy hit Tales of Treachery comes Forest of Deceit, a 4-8 player social deduction game which features a beautiful hand-drawn art style.

Claire Morwood: Asterism

Claire Morwood will be showcasing Asterism, a playable indie-rock concept album set in outer space. Follow astronaut Ruby as she embarks on a journey through a hand-crafted solar system, unlocking playable music videos along the way.

Oblation Studios: The Shepherds

Oblation Studios consists of Abertay University graduates and current students. They will be showcasing their monster-catching game The Shepherds , which combines pixel art sprites with a 3D environment. A must for fans of Pokémon!

Studio Catloaf: Escape from the Church of the Cosmic Apocalypse

Studio Catloaf will be presenting Escape from the Church of the Cosmic Apocalypse, a pixel art platformer about the bond between humans and animals and the sacrifices we make for the safety of our pets.

Ninja Kiwi: Bloons TD Battles 2

Ninja Kiwi will be bringing their latest head-to-head smash hit 'Bloons TD Battles 2' for players to prove their strategy prowess against their friends and family.

DunDev teams

This year’s Drop in and Play will include games from this year’s DunDev teams. DunDev is a residential programme which offers four early-stage game studios accommodation, office space and prize money to develop their studio and game. This programme is delivered by the UK Games Talent and Finance Community Interest Company, and funded by the UK Government.

Hunters Moon Games: Dreaded Wunders

DunDev team Hunters Moon Games will present Dreaded Wunders, a horror game based in Norwich and including myths and legends, including their very own take on the Black Shuck.

Rubber Ducky Snacks: Convicts Collection

Rubber Ducky Snacks will be showcasing their first title, Convicts Collection. Set in an alternate version of 1934, you and your friends play as convicted soldiers, fighting for their freedom underground.

Tombstone Studios: Robes & Wrinkles

From Tombstone Studios comes Robes & Wrinkles, a first-person, physics-based fantasy game. Set in medieval times, the player is placed in the robes of a villainous…yet geriatric sorcerer.

Purr Point Productions: Cat-a-strophic

Purr Point Productions are bringing Cat-a-strophic, a lighthearted destruction game where you play as a gigantic cat. Move and swipe with paws and use telekinesis to pick up and throw debris.

Drop in and Play is a free DCA gaming event which was first held in November 2012 as part of NEoN Digital Arts Festival and Discovery Film Festival.
