Making meaningful prints with ST/ART
Screen printing and Riso printing are explored in our ST/ART Autumn Schools
ST/ART@DCA is a partnership project between our Learning team and Tayside Healthcare Arts Trust (THAT) which has been running since 2004. The project is designed to help engage individuals with long term health conditions, such as head injuries, stroke, MS and chronic pain, with different creative activities as a way to promote health and wellbeing.
The 2024 Autumn Schools took place in our Print Studio, where participants tried screen printing and Riso printing at an intermediate level. Over three days, the groups were supported by professional artists to develop their ideas and create a collection of prints using these two printmaking techniques.

Was able to make meaningful image of family. Very excited by these printing workshops. Thank you.ST/ART Participant
Everyone fully embraced the different techniques, enjoying the opportunity to create pop art inspired work using the screen printing process and experiment with mark making and collage to create bold Riso prints. Many participants chose to use personal photographs and images to create their artwork, resulting in prints that had a lot of meaning to them.
At the end of the programme, participants, artists, volunteers and staff came together with friends and family to celebrate in our Create Space. The prints were then displayed on the walls of the space from Sat 30 November to Mon 2 December for visitors to enjoy. You can see a selection of them below.
Feedback
All 11 participants agreed that the programme helped them to learn new skills and many reported that the sessions had helped to improve their mood, confidence, communication and concentration as well as increasing their social contact.
Making something, a tangible memory brought to life and shared with new friends. Brilliant.
I have struggled physically but as soon as I get here all was great and fab.
I felt useful. Creating 'art' gave me a sense of purpose...
Just a happier girl during and after days at the programme, also it gets me out of the house in a safe environment.
